Note linking, in-app checkout, and free dark mode

Notes can now link directly to each other, checkout moves in-app so upgrading takes one click, and dark mode is free for everyone. Alongside that: a reworked task editor, a new notes filter palette, and a long list of fixes and polish.

  • Free Core Link notes together with [[...]].
    Type [[ anywhere to open an autocomplete picker — search for an existing note or create a new one on the fly. Tasks can now link straight to their task-notes too, so context is always one click away.
  • Free Core New notes filter palette.
    Quickly narrow down your notes list with a new filter palette, making it easier to jump straight to the note you're after.
  • Free Core Reworked task rendering.
    Tasks render more consistently throughout the editor, with fixes to numbered lists and the arrow spans used in task lines.
  • Fix Smoother tables and task editing.
    Tab navigation in and out of tables now mirrors correctly, the important-marker on tasks behaves as expected, and indentation issues with note-tasks have been ironed out.
  • Free Core Checkout, now in-app.
    Upgrade without leaving the app — Stripe checkout now happens in-app, and the account tab has a redesigned license display so you can see your plan status at a glance.
  • Core Clickable PDF links in files.
    Links to PDF files are now rendered as clickable, opening in your default PDF app.
  • Free Dark mode is free for everyone.
    Dark mode is no longer a paid feature — everyone can switch it on, regardless of plan.
  • Free Core UI polish.
    Revised heading sizes and colors, a new back button, a gutter indicator, and smoother scroll-on-cursor behavior.

Pop-out windows & a friendlier workspace

This release is all about giving your notes room to breathe — pop the editor into its own window, work across two notes side by side, and shrink windows down to tuck a note into the corner of your screen.

  • Core Pop documents out into their own window.
    You can now pop the editor out into a separate window — handy for working across two notes side by side or spreading out over multiple monitors. New windows cascade so they don't stack on top of each other, and each has its own close button.
  • Free Core Friendlier workspace switching.
    The workspace chooser now shows readable, friendly names instead of raw folder paths, so it's easier to pick the right one at a glance.
  • Free Core Resize windows down much smaller.
    The minimum window size has been reduced to 200 × 300, so you can tuck a narrow note into the corner of your screen while you work.
  • Fix Pasting markdown tables with colons.
    Pasting markdown tables no longer breaks columns apart when a cell contains a colon (e.g. "Scenario: …"). Cells now split only on the proper : separator.
  • Fix Cleaner taskbar icon.
    The taskbar icon no longer shows a grey background plate behind it in the taskbar, Alt+Tab, and Task View.
  • Fix Fresher content on startup.
    Caches now refresh on startup and whenever you open a workspace, so you see up-to-date content sooner.

Our first release introduces Projects to plan and track work in one place, plus an early vision of AI integration — connect your own AI agent and use it directly inside MellowMill Studio.

    Define project scope, tasks, and due dates in one central place. Everything links back to the notes where the work actually lives, making it easy to track progress across notebooks without losing context.
  • Core Bring-Your-Own AI integration (first look).
    A first vision of AI inside MellowMill Studio — bring your own AI agent (BYO AI) and connect it to your workspace. Your notes stay local, you keep control of which provider and credentials are used, and there's no forced cloud or vendor lock-in.
