The problem

Like a lot of people, I spent years bouncing between tools. A to-do app here, a notes app there, project boards in one place and decisions buried in email threads somewhere else. Every few months I'd find something new, migrate everything across, and convince myself this time it would stick. It never did.

These tools or processes simply don't work in the way real professionals think - they were too simplistic in their approach that they didn't work in the real world.

The decision

Eventually I stopped searching and started building. Not a grand plan to disrupt productivity software, just a simple, private notebook that solved the problems I actually had. Something fast. Something local. Something that didn't need an internet connection or a monthly subscription to let me write a thought down. Something that worked the way I wanted to work. No hassle, no fuss and no compromises.

That's how MellowMill started: as a tool built for one person, solving real problems, one frustration at a time. I found it genuinely useful in my professional life and so wanted to share it with others.

The philosophy

MellowMill is built around a few beliefs I have about software that haven't changed since day one:

• Your data is yours. Everything lives on your machine in plain text files. No cloud dependency, no vendor lock-in, no surprises.
• Tools should be quiet. A good workspace stays out of the way. No notifications fighting for attention, no AI trying to finish your sentences, no gamification of your to-do list.
• Pay once, own it. Software shouldn't be a subscription you forget to cancel. MellowMill is a one-time purchase because that's how tools should work. All future upgrades are included free of charge.
• Simplicity is a feature. Every feature earns its place. If it doesn't solve a real problem, it doesn't ship.

Who's behind this

MellowMill Studio is made by a single person. No venture capital, no growth targets, no pressure to ship features nobody asked for. Just someone who cares about building something genuinely useful.
